Mekayla Nariño
(She, Her, Ella)
Volunteer Coordinator
Mekayla is a mixed (Colombian/ white), queer woman from Escondido, CA. Her dedication to collective liberation is what grounds her work and how she navigates the world.
She is a proud UC San Diego alumni, with a B.A. in Ethnic Studies and Sociology. During her undergrad she was an active part of the MEChA de UCSD Mesa Directiva, Tijuana Youth Migrant Mentor Network, Cross-Cultural Center, and Center on Global Justice.
These spaces, and the people in them, informed her community organizing, nurtured her curiosities, and fostered meaningful opportunities for growth and reflection. She is forever thankful for them.
Most recently, she founded the organization Reimagining Our Future San Diego, which is based in North County. Reimagining Our Future SD facilitates mutual aid exchanges (aka 'free stores'), educational discussions and teach-ins, as well as social and art related events. The intention is to cultivate community and accessible spaces for social justice engagement and learning.
In her free time, she loves to go to the beach, read, dance, journal, hike, and try new cafes.
